I had the first Bonenkai (year-end binge) last Friday at Okachimachi, one of JR’s Tokyo Circle Line station, and the nearest station for a worldly famous market street “Ameyoko”. The party starts at seven in the evening and I had one hour to walk around the market street and to the Shinobazu Pond by crossing the Showa Dori Street.

Ameyoko would be awfully crowded in the last days of December for shoppers buying fishes and other marine products from mongers, but it was December 1 and I could still walk with my own stepping pace at dusk.

There is a temple “Marishiten” on one corner of this cut throat business area, and somehow it vicinity strangely retains otherworldly quietness. When reaching at Showa Dori, there are many Karaoke studios. Japan’s Karaoke is a healthy spot for just singing along, while some massage parlors are as dubious as those in wherever else.???????

Along the Showa Dori, there are clothing shops for visiting foreign tourists and some sell “Victoria’s Secret” like underwear.

A short alley that leads from Showa Dori to the pond is unobtrusive and I spotted one street walker she is as obtrusive as the alley itself. And at the end of alley, there is a movie theater dedicating for running Pink movies (soft core porn).
