(巻四十)定年はやがてくるもの花みづき(日下部宵三)
曇り。細君はお出掛け。お絵描きをして老後を愉しむ。
パック赤飯とカップ麺の昼食を終えたところに細君が帰宅。晩飯は鰻だそうな！
散歩は図書館とクロちゃん。
半年ぶりのウナギ旨し。半年ぶりだから旨いのだ。鰤も鮭も半年ぶりに食えば旨いのだろう。
願い事－ポックリ御陀仏。知らずに御陀仏。

余録：本は買わずに図書館恃み、お絵描きも鉛筆一本に消しゴム一個と物は持たないようにしている。それでも書棚を一年放って置くと見苦しくなる。ふと思い立って整理をした。書籍は増えていないが、ついつい放り込んでままにした通信文、お知らせなどが溜まっていた。やはり処分に手間がかかるのは毎年送られてくるOB会の名簿だ。そのまま棄てるわけには行かず、千切っては、千切ってはである。

Side note: I don't buy books; I go to the library, and I don't use drawing supplies other than a pencil and an eraser when I draw. Still, the bookcase becomes messy after letting it be for a year. On a whim, I sorted it out. The number of books has not increased, but there was an accumulation of correspondence and notices that I had just thrown in. After all, it took a lot of time and effort to dispose of the list of alumni associations that is sent every year. I cannot discard it intact and cut it to shreds.
*The address above is for an essay written in Japanese, which might have some relevance to my prose. In defense of the collapse of the desk order, the author of this essay invokes the law of entropy.
